Painted Stork – Mycteria leucocephala

Title :Painted Stork - Mycteria leucocephala The Painted Stork (Mycteria leucocephala) is a large wading bird in the stork family. It is found in the wetlands of the plains of tropical Asia south of the Himalayas in South Asia and extending into Southeast Asia. Their distinctive pink tertial feathers of the wing are pink giving them their name. They forage in flocks in shallow waters along rivers or lakes. They immerse their half open beaks in water and sweep them from side to side and snap up their prey of small fish that are sensed by touch. As they wade along they also stir the water with their feet to flush hiding fish. They nest colonially in trees, often along with other waterbirds. They only sounds they produce are a weak moan or sounds produced by bill clattering. They are not migratory and only make short distance movements in some parts of their range in response to food and for breeding. Like other storks, they are often seen soaring on thermals.

Title :Pileated Gibbon - Hylobates pileatus The Pileated Gibbon (Hylobates pileatus) is a primate in the Hylobatidae or gibbon family. The Pileated Gibbon has sexual dimorphism in fur coloration: males have a purely black fur, while the females are have a white-grey colored fur with only the belly and head black. The white and often shaggy hair ring around the head is common to both sexes. The range of the Pileated Gibbon is eastern Thailand, western Cambodia and southwest Laos. Its lifestyle is much like other gibbons: diurnal and arboreal, it lives together in a monogamous pair, brachiates through the trees with its long arms, and predominantly eats fruits, leaves and small animals. Reproduction habits are not well known, but are presumed to be similar to the other gibbons.

Title :Squirrel monkey - Saimiri The squirrel monkeys are the New World monkeys of the genus Saimiri. They are the only genus in the subfamily Saimirinae. Squirrel monkeys live in the tropical forests of Central and South America in the canopy layer. Most species have para- or allopatric ranges in the Amazon, while S. oerstedii is found disjunctly in Costa Rica and Panama. Squirrel monkey fur is short and close, colored olive at the shoulders and yellowish orange on its back and extremities. Their throat and the ears are white and their mouths are black. The upper part of their head is hairy. This black-and-white face gives them the name “death’s head monkey”.

Title :Buddhist monks collecting alms in the early morning Buddhist monks collecting their alms in North East Thailand. The area is called Isan, sometimes spelled as Isaan. This area is still very traditional, it is mainly an agricultural area. Alms or almsgiving is a religious rite which, in general, involves giving materially to another as an act of religious virtue. In Buddhism, alms are given by lay people to monks and nuns to nurture laic virtue, merit and blessings and to ensure monastic continuity.

Title :Stupa of Phra That Cherng Chum temple in Sakon Nakhon, Thailand Phra That Cherng Chum, the rectangular stupa of the Wat Phra That Cherngchum Voraviharn temple is 24 metre high and decorated with 3.75 kg golden umbrella. The stupa, or Phra That, has four doors put inside is fill with stone. It is built to cover footprints of four Buddhas namely Phra Kakusantha, Phra Konakom, Phra Kassapa, and Phra Kodom or Phra Sri Ariyametrei ( The present Lord Buddha). Its history is unclear, however, Phra That is considered sacred icon for Sakon Nakhon. Next to the Phra That is the chapel that houses Luang Por Ong Saen, a sacred Buddha statue of the province. On Wan Phra or Buddhist Day, lots of Buddhist always pay homage to the Buddha image at night. The temple holds annual celebration between the 9th and 15th date of waxing moon of January.
